Hi All,
The following is an outline plan of activities/arrangements for the
coming weekend away in Dorset.
Directions to Amberwood House
Head West on M27. At Cadnam this turns into the A31; carry straight on
heading for Ringwood and Wimborne Minster. The following is quoted
verbatim from the Hoseasons Details:-
"Heading West A31, approx 7 miles after Wimborne Minster trurn left
just before "Worlds End" pub (a large thatched building) onto B3075
signed Morden & Wareham. Continue for 3 miles, then turn left at
cross-roads & immediately right signed Wareham & Sandford. After
another 3 miles turn left at roundabout. Continue over next roundabout
& up to traffic Lights, then turn right signed Organford. Sandford Park
is 1st entrance on left."
In case you need them, the Caretaker's Details are as follows:-

Rough Plan of Activities
Friday
O'Connors, Darvs, Castles, Lippetts and Whymarks (and Rich?) are
planning to leave Portsmouth at about 10:30 to arrive in Holton Heath
just after midday, having picked up breakfast on the way. We should be
able to get the key and dump our gear at the house.
The afternoon will be spent generally dossing around and possibly
reasearching one or two of the local hostelries.
I have booked a table for 14 people at the La Trottolina restaurant in
Wareham for 7pm. The idea is to get a bite to eat, then return to the house
for games and general partying by about 9pm. Hopefully the Swansons
and Steve A (and Rich, if he's not already there) will arrive in time for the
Italian. If anyone does not fancy the Italian, or would rather just hang-out in
the pub (or whatever), then please feel free to do so. Also, if you do fancy
the Italian, but don't think you will make it by 7pm, just get in touch by
mobile phone (see below) and we'll wait for you.
Bob, Lorraine and Steve A (and Rich?): I will phone you tomorrow
(Wednesday) to discuss arrangements for your arrival (e.g. what time do
you expect to arrive? Will you go to the house first and if so, how will you
get a key, etc.). I will be speaking to the Caretaker again tomorrow and
I don't expect there to be any insurmountable problems.
Saturday
Up at 6am for 7 mile run... maybe not!
Get up and enjoy a hearty breakfast cooked under the direction of the
renowned "breakfast chef" Mr Steven Lippett.
I have booked 10-pin bowling lanes at the Tower Park Leisure Complex
for 3pm. Tower Park is at the North end of Poole, which is itself a 9 minute
train ride away from Holten Heath (there is also Bingo, if we can get
memberships in time!).
The trains leave Holten Heath at 5 minutes past the hour. We can play this
by ear, but a provisional plan might be to get the 12:05 into Poole, have a
quick wander around the quay (maybe a pie and a pint), then get ourselves
up to Tower Park for Bowling at 3pm. Of course, this would have to be revised
if anyone wanted to take-in Bingo as well!
Return to the house at around 6pm to prepare for the evening's entertainment,
which will be a "holiday-themed" (optional) party. Exact details of the "Welcome
Meeting" time, etc. will be made on the day.
A provisional plan for food this evening will be a giant take-away from either the
local Indian or Chinese (or both) restaurantes.
Sunday
Recover. Go home.
Room Allocation
The agreed procedure for allocating rooms is as follows:-
1. Kathy and Steve have first choice, then...
2. On arrival, Steve and Kathy will conduct a quick survey of the rooms and
number them in "preference order" (obviously this is subject to individual
preferences, but we should get it about right).
3. Lots will be drawn by all other couples for the choice of rooms.
The numbers between 1 and 6 will be written on pieces of paper then placed
in a hat. Each couple present will then draw a number from the hat. The number
drawn determines the room that you are allocated. After the present couples
have drawn a number, I will draw on behalf of Bob and Lorraine, the number remaining
in the hat will be assigned to the Aldens. Note that, assuming no cheating (and
I will guarantee this), the order in which you draw a number does not affect your
chances of getting a good room.
4. Rich - this probably seems harsh/unfair (and it is) but I'm afraid that you are
goining to have to sleep on the settee - please bring a sleeping bag. I'm sure that
in lieu of this sacrifice, that your fellow revellers will take every opportunity to buy
you drinks to compensate for your inconvenience! - all note!
Cost
The cost of the house for 3 nights is £493. Given that nobody is expected to stay
for 3 nights I have calculated the amount payable on a "per person/per night" basis
over the two nights. If anyone wants to stay for the extra night (Sunday), you
can do this free of charge!.
The total cost per couple is as follows:
Steve and Clare: £51
Rich: £34
Rest: £68
What do you need to bring?
(if any of this seems a bit odd, remember that it was all agreed at the SIT)
All
